Computing Group
We focus on creating computing systems that enable and accelerate the analysis of visual information, as a critical precursor to discoveries and innovations that can benefit society at large. We develop both scalable automated algorithms and crowdsourced human intelligence systems for analyzing images and videos. Our research involves computer vision, machine learning, crowdsourcing, human computation, human-computer interaction, accessibility, and (bio)medical image analysis.
Research Themes
Designing solutions with and for people who are blind that facilitate interpreting visual information
Featured Projects
Assisting (bio)medical teams to learn about biological processes as well as detect and treat diseases.
Featured Projects
Empowering individuals to identify and manage any private content found in their images and videos
Featured Projects
Leveraging the strengths of humans and AI together to outperform what either can achieve alone
Featured Projects
Providing human-like interactions with visual content either by describing images or answering questions about images
Featured Projects
Creating new images by modifying existing images to meet end users’ visual goals
Featured Projects
Locating content in images, either using rectangles (detection) or detailed outlines (segmentation)
Featured Projects
Following the movement of content in videos over time

Prospective Students
My goal for individuals joining this group is to guide them to identify their dream jobs; arm them with the knowledge, skills, and community to make their dreams become a reality; and support them to make a positive social impact along the way. If you are interested in joining, please review this FAQ page first.
