About

Biography

I am an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at University of Colorado Boulder and Founding Director of the Image and Video Computing group. My expertise is in computer vision, human computer interaction, accessibility, and (bio)medical data analysis, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches. Since 2017, I have taught courses on these topics to over 400 graduate and undergraduate students while leading a multidisciplinary research team that innovates in these fields.

My research has resulted in over 60 peer-reviewed articles at top academic conferences and journals, with several papers earning awards at venues such as WACV, CHI, CSCW, ASIS&T, HCOMP, MICCAI, and AAPM. Over 30 mentees, spanning undergraduate students to postdoctoral fellows, contributed to this research before moving on to successful careers in industry and academia. My work is supported by diverse funding sources, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Microsoft, Adobe, and Amazon.

I received my Ph.D. from Boston University’s Computer Science Department, where I was advised by Dr. Margrit Betke. I then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in The University of Texas at Austin Computer Science Department, supervised by Dr. Kristen Grauman. Before transitioning to academia, I worked at Boulder Imaging and Raytheon, where I gained valuable industry experience that continues to inform my academic career.
